Clear enigma: summary, historical context, about or author
Clear enigma It is the fifth book of poetry by the writer Carlos Drummond de Andrade and was launched in 1951 by the publisher José Olympio. A publicação brings together 42 poems, two more varied themes.
A famous composition A machine of the world - eleito or melhor poem of the 20th century of Brazilian literature - and the penultimate creation present I do not free.
I summarize
It can be said that Clear enigma It is a book marked by a certain disappointment, Drummond dava sinais, a year long two verses, gives an exhaustion of his political commitment and of exhaustion after years of militancy.
A year long two poems, which dealt with two more different themes, evidently, for example, a dissolution of a motivating ideology. As linhas initiais de Dissolução, a poem that opens an anthology, já marcam or tom do livro:
It darkened me and I was not seduced
tatear dry a lamp.
Why I spend a day findar,
aceito a noite.E eat the oil that sprouts
one order another one of beings
e coisas not figurative.
Crossed arms.
On the other hand, the social side of the poet loses its focus, or the introspective, melancholic and philosophical aspect of the poet is totally forced. Drummond proposes a mergulho in his interior and vai vasculhar precious matters as to his origin, to force the love and the power of memory.
Critical many, such as Viviana Bosi (from USP), considered that Clear enigma This is the most important book of poetry written in Portuguese 20.
Nessa publicação, Drummond turned to invest in classical formats - as well as his Geração de 45 - as, for example, or sonnet. Some two pieces of work together do not release formal compositions that obey rhyme and meter.
O poem Irritated Office é um exemplar desse return to fixed forms:
Eu quero compor a hard sonnet
as a poet algum ousara escrever.
I want to paint a dark sonnet,
dry, drowned, difficult to read.
I want you to have a sonnet, not a future one,
I did not wake up in any nenhum prazer.
And what, it is not evil ar imature,
the same time it knew to be, not to be.
Esse meu unfriendly and impure verb
has to pungir, has to fazer sofrer,
tendão de Vênus on or pedicure.
Ninguém or lembrara: shot not wall,
cão mijando no chaos, enquanto Arcturo,
clear enigma, is left surpreender.
In a research commissioned by the Folha de S.Paulo journal between literary writers and critics, or poem A Máquina do mundo, or penultimate present in Clear enigma, I was eleito or melhor Brazilian poem of the XX century.
Historic context
Two important historical events especially mark the period of composition of Clear Enigma.
The world attended the Cold War, which began in 1947 (as the end of the Second World War) and only ended in 1991 (as the end of the Soviet Union).
It was also a period marked by the consequences of the atomic bomb, fired in Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.
About a livro structure
Launched in 1951 by the publisher José Olympio, or book by Drummond and divided into six chapters that carry various numbers of poems, including:
I - Entre lobo e cão (18 poems)
II - Love news (7 poems)
III - O menino e os homens (4 poems)
IV - Selo de minas (5 poems)
V - The closed lips (6 poems)
VI - A machine do the world (2 poems)
The initial epigraph of the book is the following sentence attributed to the French philosopher Paul Valéry:
Les événements m'ennuient.
A translation for or Portuguese would be: You events understand me.
A phrase that has been used as an opening of the book has already denounced or sentiment of disappointment, melancholy and disenchantment that prevails over the years of the poetry presented. It seems that this free Drummond perceives its smallness and its incapacity to intervene in the world, or even gives an attitude that He appeared in other books (as or deeply deluded A rosa do povo, from 1945, which thematized the war in Europe and brasilira).
Clear enigma Characterized by a social and historical apathy, we see a poem that is more bitter than the usual lyric by Drummond.
